German News - Prep Group 2 - Frau Scherpel

Dear Parents,
The Prep German Group 2 class is made up of Ms. Pells´children that are new in German or have had some exposure to the language. We are off to a good start this year and are getting to know the most important things about each other! Woher kommst du? Wie heißt du? Wie alt bist du?  We have reinforced our learning by viewing four episodes of a video series entitled Anna, Schmidt und Oskar. These 15 minute films give the children, an introduction to German in a real life setting.
We have been learning many new words from songs and games. One song is about the parts of our body and what we can do with our hands, our feet, our legs, etc. "Wozu sind unsere Augen da?" "Die Augen sind zum Sehen da!"
We are using the computer program "Richtig so!" to learn and reinforce vocabulary in a fun and exciting way. We have learned the words for our family members and body parts. We have learned two poems. They are both in the German booklet. Please let your child recite them for you. They may need your help.
Numbers, colors and greetings have been introduced with songs, dances, games and stories. In one story entitled "Das kleine Blau"  by Leo Lionni, we learned the colors. You can also see the artwork from the children in their German booklet reflecting this story. The songs and pictures in the plastic folder may be kept at home. Please return the empty plastic folder on Monday. Have your child share their green booklet with you and return it also on Monday.

Sincerely,  Lynn Scherpel
